Winds of change

I gaze at the line left in the road and marvel,
How straight and how even it is!
The footsteps were sure with memory,
The ears acclimatised to eternal calm
I made my way to this forest with no vacillation
My resolution was begotten by the calm tides
Fortune must smile on some of us for the waters to be calm
It barely saves a gaze for most while the chosen relish
It has been a solitary journey and the path straight
I met some friendly creature here and there
Oh I also beheld wrath in its ugliest form
She was borne by futility itself, seething and unforgiving
That is the past now and before me lies this forest
The trees beckon but the darkness enshrouds secrets
I fear not the darkness or its insidious residents,
My fear is but the unevenness of the path ahead.
