Leaves of yesterday

I wander in the quiet night with my trusted companion
Solitude, she is with me again
We discourse on matters perplexing my rabid mind
The quest for my core that yields not
For we look back together and smile in unison
As joy of years past lends us a fresh whiff
We look ahead and merely raise our eyebrows
The road onward is dark and laden with imagined bumps
Trees on either side lean in somber prostration
Before the first step, we picture their branches touching us
The little leaves and stems caress the shoulder
They hurt less than we had imagined them to
Such scars they leave in my soul today
When I look back at their instructive touch
If only I had been more exploratory and reached out

The fruits would have been mine still

The age of season

Looking back, the higher road is difficult only when you start
What joy it is, looking back with a content heart
I serve the solace of my soul that evaded me so
Feeling the ocean kiss my feet as I am lost in thought

Those who seemed sensitive and devoid of patience
Now it is they who kindle my tolerance
I wince at a remark here and there
But what follows is a smile at my own folly

The little ones are impatient too, and obstinate in their wishes
I have learnt patience from this buoyant lot
Not easy, dealing with the whims of children
For they cast a spell with their charming looks

And the greying folk too demand a calm mind
They ask for a thing and then they ask again
The hand reaches for the forehead in a moment of despair
It is stilled by a deliberate spasm of the knowing heart

Oh the joy of looking back and smiling
Enjoying a jest at one's own account
So sweet is the taste of this unfolding of our senses
That is bred during the journey from cradle to grey

Leaving blues

The fog seems too thick, the night too dark
It seems even the dogs are lonely, just hear them bark
I promise no more explanations, no extended chat
Feel free to anoint me idiot with a tap of this bat

Baby, stay tonight and we'll have a little wine
Don't you rush into the decision that you ain't mine
I'll chase you till you tire of being tired of me
You're hooked to me forever, that's what you'll see

I spoke with your friends that speak ill of me
Bad advice, baby and it'll bring you no glee
So late in the night and seems you just wanna fly
I will be on your tail like a crazy spy

Baby, stay tonight and we'll have a little wine
Don't you rush into the decision that you ain't mine
I'll chase you till you tire of being tired of me
You're hooked to me forever, that's what you'll see

Take me with you if you are hell bent on going
Without you, what do you expect me to be doing?
I lie here with the pencil and my guitar
Words coming to me from a lonely place afar

Baby, stay tonight and we'll have a little wine
Don't you rush into the decision that you ain't mine
I'll chase you till you tire of being tired of me
You're hooked to me forever, that's what you'll see

Here, hold on to the letter, the sum of my love
Turn before you sit in the car and take a peak above
You may change your mind when you see me blue
Of my insanity, my darling you have no clue

Baby, stay tonight and we'll have a little wine
Don't you rush into the decision that you ain't mine
I'll chase you till you tire of being tired of me
You're hooked to me forever, that's what you'll see

Our Flames

This pursuit is made out to be thorny and hard
It needs dedication and a closed heart
While the passion lies dying somewhere in the dark
Unfound, unloved, relinquished until the last breath
Fleeting moments rekindle the lost spirit, the unrequited love
The warm hand is now resting in an unkind glove

Go for gold and abandon your inner self
The dying flame is now on its last breath
Your passion never left but hides in fear
Of all that you now hold dear

Doors kept opening and shutting with a soft thud
The unspoken truth bobs gently in your blood
They call it success, a product of hard work and focus
When all it is made of is a resounding escape
Deep in the ashes of your core burns a weak ember
Its dying light changing hues from yellow to pitch black

Go for gold and abandon your inner self
The dying flame is now on its last breath
Your passion never left but hides in fear
Of all that you now hold dear

Oh to find that feeling again, the essence of my inner being
The allure that took me has seized me too hard
